Welcome to Arthur Johnson & Sons Auctioneers, one of the UK’s largest and most progressive auctioneers. Located in Nottingham just opposite Notts County football club, Arthur Johnson & Sons serves a wide range of locations throughout the East Midlands with clients and companies coming from across the county including Derby, Bingham, Newark, Hucknall, Mansfield, Beeston, Long Eaton, West Bridgford, Stapleford, Ilkeston, Carlton, Arnold and many others.
Supported by six very large sale rooms, Arthur Johnson & Sons has one of largest auction complexes within Britain with the entire business offering anything and everything you can imagine from motor vehicles, plant equipment and electricals all the way to collectables, jewellery and antiques.
Around 2000 lots are placed up for auction every single week spread between four and six sale rooms (depending on the item category) all operating simultaneously.
The roots of the company can be traced back to 19th century when Arthur Johnson himself started auctioneering in 1888, meaning the company has over 120 years of auctioning experience. Arthur Johnson & Sons beginnings coincided with the establishment of the Nottingham Cattle Market on Meadow Lane. After over 30 years of auctioning Arthur’s two sons, Jack and Arthur, entered into the business in the 1920’s. The original offices for the company resided at Maypole Yard in Nottingham close to the Old Black Boy Hotel.
In 1959 Bob Johnson joined the company and has remained a director ever since. Throughout the last half century the Saturday auctions, combined with the associated weekend market, have become a renowned feature of weekend Nottingham life. Every weekend thousands of people enter the gates to sample what has to be labelled as a very unique atmosphere as many of the returning customers remember visiting the old style cattle market when they were children.
The last sale of livestock took place at the beginning of 1993 and by this point Arthur Johnson & Sons furniture auctions had already flourished into one of the largest in the country.
