17th September 2020
2020 has been an unbelievably challenging year so far and like businesses worldwide, we have been forced to take stock and reorganise as we continue to do our best to serve our loyal customers.
When the Coronavirus lockdown restrictions were first announced by the government in March, hardly any auctions were being held and we were left with little choice but to press pause on our weekly printed Auction News magazine.
We resumed publication of the digital version on our website as soon as we could and were delighted to find that our print subscribers were able to access it on their computers, tablets and smart phones with ease. The success of this transition led us to re-assess the necessity of the printed magazine.
We conducted a survey of all customers – subscribers and auctioneers – to ask for feedback and, after carefully analysing the results, found that a move to an all-digital service was seen as a hugely positive step forward for Auction News. Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know your preferences, it has been an incredibly enlightening exercise.
Global warming is widely considered the greatest threat to the future of mankind and even before the pandemic struck, we had often discussed the environmental impact of printing and distributing a weekly magazine. We were heartened to discover that many of you shared our concerns and your overwhelmingly positive feedback for the ‘digimag’ has nudged us to make what was initially a temporary move, permanent.
Auction News started out as a printed publication over sixty years ago and so making the leap to an all-digital service is a big change for all of us. We have always been extremely proud of our magazine and we know that for some, there is nothing quite like seeing the adverts and news articles in print.
However, as a forward-thinking organisation, we are convinced that switching to an all digital service will give us more time to focus on what we do best - bringing you all the latest news and information about auctions and the auction industry.
We are committed to harnessing new technologies to make your lives easier and this is why we are excited to announce that our new online bidding software is ready for launch.
The “Bid Manager” software, which we are now demoing to auctioneers, will allow you to place bids and buy lots directly from our site, saving you time and allowing you to secure the very best deals for your business.
With regard to subscriptions, if you have paid an annual magazine subscription in the last 12 months then rest assured we will be in touch soon regarding a refund for the remainder of your subscription period.
And if there’s anything else we can do to help and support you in making this transition with us, then please email us at [email protected].
We hope you and your families are keeping safe in these uncertain times and we thank you again for your support as we find our way towards a “new normal”.
Kind Regards,
The Auction News Team
