23rd January 2020
It’s only January, but for NCM Auctions a stacked auction calendar, expanding client base of global brands and the potential of another ‘viral’ auction event just around the corner, is a good indication that 2020 is shaping up to be the most exciting year yet.
The Doncaster-based auctioneers were founded in 2012. Fast forward to 2020 and now entering their eighth year of business, the company can boast doubled revenue growth year-on-year. At the same time, an enviable list, including some of UK Plc and the public sectors biggest names, are frequently calling on their talents to sustainably and efficiently dispose of their surplus assets.
What’s the secret? First and foremost, having an expert team with a shared passion and vision who can deliver (or sell) the goods. Obsessively planning everything, plenty of hard work to bring it all together, and finally realising that when the tried and tested rules of the auctioneering industry don’t fit, it’s probably time to make your own.
In the early years, NCM was quick to get top marks in the education sector, disposing of assets for a variety of educational institutions. It’s an industry they can navigate with ease, understanding all the quirks and complexities, that mean they stand apart from a more traditional commercial auction. They have gone on to work with over 140 different colleges and universities across the UK, with many contracted until 2024 and beyond.
As the range and scale of the auctions grew, so did the team and soon experts in sales, marketing, project delivery and that all-important industry knowledge meant that the right skills were on hand for whatever the auction, or client needed.
As you would expect by now, NCM’s auctions are not your typical auction stock. Rather than items retired from heavy industry or end-of-life, insolvent assets, the team are in charge of well-maintained resources from large scale corporate and public sector bodies. Meanwhile, long term Government contracts and retained clients ensure a constant churn of surplus stock ready for their buyers to repurpose.
Last November NCM hosted their first live Classic Car Auction. The sale went viral, attracting over 1,000 bidders, media interest from around the globe and brought in a record-breaking return for the client. Following on from that success, a second Classic Car Auction will take place on Saturday 29th February.
There’s recognition for their efforts too; the team rounded off 2019 by taking home the trophy for the ‘Success Through Innovation’ category at the Local Business Awards.
So what does the rest of 2020 hold? More of the same, doing great work for great clients –and as the NCM team continue to innovate at pace, we wouldn’t like to second-guess what comes next – but they’re determined to keep shaking things up.
