Pallet auctions are not just great for small businesses looking for bargain goods to resell – they represent a fantastic opportunity for consumers to score popular household products at a fraction of their retail price.
With a range of goods available on every pallet, from household appliances to high street fashion, it’s no wonder that pallet and consumer goods auctions have become so popular in the UK.
For starters, let’s understand where the goods featured in these auctions come from.
Major retailers accept back a huge volume of customer returns, some of which are in pristine condition and can go straight back on the shelves. However, others are sold to a partner or third party who will then present them for sale as a pallet auction.
These returned items are rejected for re-sale by the retailer for a variety of reasons; some are brand new but end-of-line, some have minor imperfections like slight packaging damage. Others, however, do have more significant imperfections, such as electrical products that are labelled as “not working”.
These goods come to market on pallets as a collection of products within their categories. Buying returns pallets represents a huge opportunity to bag valuable items, including from highly desirable brands, at a fraction of their RRP. There is of course risk involved, as you don’t know until you open the packaging what the possible flaw is, but the excitement of discovering what you’ve won – as well as the potential savings and profit – far outweigh that risk for many consumers.
There are many devotees of this type of auction. This includes both consumers buying for personal use, especially those with the knowledge and skills to refurbish any items that aren’t working, and small businesses/independent traders who will separate the goods into individual lots and sell them for profit.
William George holds weekly pallet auctions of raw returns sourced from High Street giant John Lewis. Ending every Tuesday, the bargains found here vary each week and include domestic appliances, furniture and toys from household names including Smeg and Dyson.
These auctions are always sold on a no-reserve basis, so you really can walk away with savings of thousands of pounds on many featured pallets!
To see what’s included in each pallet, simply visit the William George website, where you will find a list of exactly what is featured, so you know what items you’ll be bringing home. Once you’ve found the lot that most appeals to you, you simply need to register your details and you’re ready to start bidding!
