Auction News Acquires Industrial Strength Bidding Gavel at Bidpath Foundation Charity Auction

4th December 2025

Auction News is proud to have taken part in the Bidpath Foundation Gavel Art Trail & Auction supporting brain tumour and palliative care charities, securing Lot 12 created by artist Megan Smith-Evans.

The nationwide initiative combined creativity, community and charity and brought together artists, sponsors and auctioneers from across the UK culminating in a live online auction on 6 November 2025 which raised vital funds for The Brain Tumour Charity, The National Brain Appeal and the International Children’s Palliative Care

Fifteen striking gavel sculptures were displayed at locations across the country from September to October, each designed by an artist to symbolise strength, hope and imagination. The trail paid tribute to George Wade, a Bidpath colleague who in April 2024 was diagnosed with a double brain tumour. Inspired by his courage and determination, the foundation was established to support charities addressing some of life’s toughest challenges.

Auction News was delighted to acquire Lot 12 – the Industrial Strength Bidding Gavel sponsored by ANM Group and created by Megan Smith-Evans. The piece resonated with the team as it reflects the industrial focus of the business and the spirit behind the trail.

“Lot 12 really speaks to us as a business,” said Gemma, Director at Auction News. “The industrial aesthetic fits perfectly with the sectors we cover and the craftsmanship by Megan Smith-Evans is exceptional. My dad, Steve Payne, recently retired from Auction News, spotted it straight away and said it was the one we should go for.”

George’s fundraising journey has been remarkable. Following his diagnosis he ran the London Marathon in 2025 and raised £41,000 for The National Brain Appeal and The Brain Tumour Charity. The Gavel Art Trail & Auction has now helped push his total closer to £100,000 supporting vital research and care for those affected by brain conditions and children’s palliative care needs.

All fifteen sculptures have now been sold, but supporters can still view the catalogue online at bidpath.wildinartauctions.com to see the creativity on display and learn more about the artists and sponsors involved.

“George’s journey is truly inspiring,” Gemma added. “It was a pleasure to meet him and this shows how much our industry can achieve when it comes together.”

Supporters can continue to contribute to George’s campaign and make a difference by donating via the JustGiving page: https://justgiving.com/team/bidpath-foundation-gavel-art-trail-auction. Every donation helps fund life-changing research and support services for those affected by brain conditions and children’s palliative care needs.
