More than 40 employees from Yorkshire-based asset disposal specialist BPI are preparing to take on a 24-mile walking challenge this October.
On Friday 16th October, colleagues will tackle part of the Wakefield Way, walking approximately 24 miles to raise funds for Ataxia UK and St James’s Intensive Care Unit in Leeds, two charities with personal connections to the BPI team.
The walk continues a strong tradition of employee-led fundraising at BPI. Previous company-wide challenges have seen the team raise nearly £13,000 by completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, almost £5,000 through a fitness challenge and more than £8,000 with a Million Step Challenge, all in support of Cancer Research UK.
Building on those efforts, the team hopes this year’s challenge can generate a similarly impressive amount for two causes selected by BPI employees themselves.
Both charities have a direct connection to colleagues and their families. Ataxia has affected the family of one BPI employee, while the Intensive Care Unit at St James’s University Hospital cared for the son of another colleague, making the decision to support the two organisations particularly meaningful for the team.
Ataxia UK is the UK’s leading charity supporting people affected by ataxia, a group of rare neurological conditions. It provides information, advice and support to people living with the condition and their families, as well as funding research into treatments and potential cures.
The Intensive Care Unit at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds provides specialist care for critically ill patients and forms part of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
For BPI, the challenge is an opportunity for colleagues to come together behind causes that matter to them personally while supporting the wider community.
David Boulton, Managing Director of BPI said: “Once again, our employees have really got behind the idea of doing something together to raise money for charity. The fact that the team chose the charities themselves makes this challenge particularly meaningful, and we’re hoping to build on the fantastic fundraising efforts we’ve seen from previous challenges.
“We’re incredibly proud of what our people have achieved so far, and with more than 40 colleagues taking part this time, we’re looking forward to seeing everyone get behind the challenge. It’s a great opportunity to raise as much money as we can for two important causes while giving something back to the communities around us.”
With more than 40 colleagues set to take part, BPI hopes the walk will continue its successful fundraising record while generating valuable support for two causes close to the team.
