Oasis ‘Supersonic’ Piano Takes Centre Stage at Littleton Auctions Music Sale

1st October 2026

A piece of British music history will go under the hammer this October, as Littleton Auctions brings together an impressive collection of music memorabilia, instruments and collectables in its High-Profile Music Auction.

Taking place on Saturday 3rd October 2026 from 10am, the sale features items connected to some of the biggest names in music, but one lot in particular is likely to catch the attention of Oasis fans.

At the centre of the auction is a Yamaha C3 Baby Grand Piano with an extraordinary musical history. Formerly housed at Rockfield Studios and later Monnow Valley Studios in Monmouth, the piano is associated with decades of recording sessions and appears on the artwork for Oasis’ debut single, Supersonic.

According to accompanying provenance, the piano was originally purchased in 1971 by Charles and Kingsley Ward of Rockfield Studios before being moved to Monnow Valley following the studio’s establishment in 1985. It remained in regular studio use for more than three decades.

During that time, it is documented as having been used on recordings by an extensive list of artists, including Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Rush, Phil Collins, The Stone Roses, Pulp, The Charlatans, Super Furry Animals, Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics, The Coral and Feeder.

Its Oasis connection adds another chapter to its history. The band recorded sessions for their debut album Definitely Maybe at Monnow Valley in 1994, while the piano can also be seen in the artwork for Supersonic, released as the band’s debut single that same year. The lot is accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Monnow Valley Studio Ltd, dated 23 February 2016.

The piano is far from the only highlight in the sale. Music fans can also find lots relating to The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Nirvana, alongside vinyl records, programmes, set lists, tour itineraries, clothing, signed CDs and private number plates.

Items from the personal collection of guitarist Gordon Giltrap also feature, while guitar collectors can look out for a Rickenbacker electric guitar signed by Noel Gallagher and Gem Archer, as well as a Noel Gallagher signature Epiphone.

With decades of music history represented across the catalogue, Littleton Auctions’ October sale offers plenty for collectors, fans and musicians to look through ahead of bidding.
