BTG Eddisons Property Auctions has completed its first-ever four-day national auction event, generating £25m in property sales across more than 180 lots. The programme combined two days of multi-lot auctions with a further two days of livestreamed sales, reflecting the continued shift towards digital-first auction formats.
The opening day of the livestreamed schedule also marked a notable return to Bramall Lane for an in-room auction showcase for the first time since February 2020, bringing a hybrid approach back into a live setting for the first time in several years.
Hybrid Auction in Action
The one-off showcase event offered attendees a live view of how digital-first property auctions have evolved, while also creating space for networking across the wider regional and national real estate community.
Bidders were able to participate in-room at Bramall Lane alongside a wider national audience bidding online, by proxy and via telephone. The opening day attracted 1,200 viewers, with bidding conducted by Auctioneer and Director, Adrian Little and Lucy Crapper, Senior Auctioneer Surveyor at BTG Eddisons Sheffield, alongside Partner and Auctioneer, Andrew Parker.
Essential Information Group data places BTG Eddisons as the second largest auction provider in the UK by volume of lots sold, underlining the scale of its national platform within the wider market.
Bramall Lane Brings Auctions Back In-Room
Andy Thompson, National Director of Auctions at BTG Eddisons, said:
“Our first four-day national auction has been a great success and it was made even better with our return to Bramall Lane for an in-person auction showcase. Bringing together the thrill of the traditional in-room auction with the latest in digital-first live stream auction technology, the event was a brilliant reminder of where the value of human interaction and relationships meet with latest technologies to deliver the best service and outcome for buyers and sellers.
“It is clear that as livestream and online auctions have been rolled out more widely since the pandemic, the popularity of auctions has grown as more buyers and sellers favour the speed, certainty and transparency of the auction. While in-room auctions are likely not to return to the fore, this showcase event was a helpful way to show the market how far the industry has developed and the power of livestreamed auctions as a tool to unlock value.
“Auctions are a helpful strategic tool for quickly unlocking value, for individuals or businesses and, along with the teams across BTG’s wider services, we are able to support clients with unlocking value and driving growth as they navigate challenging conditions. To bring this expertise and insight to real estate professionals and businesses across the UK, we are looking forward to building on the success of this event and our previous showcase in Manchester with more in-person auction showcases, including a London event later in the year.”
Strong Sales Across Four-Day Format
Lucy Crapper, recently appointed Senior Auctioneer Surveyor at BTG Eddisons Sheffield, said:
“Our in-room auction showcase was a fantastic opportunity for our Sheffield team and national auctions team alike to return to our old stomping ground at Bramall Lane after a number of years away. It was brilliant to be able to show local real estate and business community how we have developed and optimised our livestream auction offering and what it can bring to buyers and sellers in Sheffield and beyond. We are also pleased to have achieved significant sales volume and value across our first four-day national event and look forward to building on this success for our next national auctions over the coming months.”
Market Evolution on Display
Adrian Little, Auctioneer and Director at BTG Eddisons Sheffield, said:
“The value of being in person and in the room in an auction has certainly not been forgotten and it was fantastic to see faces old and new to network, discuss and learn from each other once again. It was great to show the fantastic real estate opportunities that Sheffield has to offer alongside other lots from across the nation and we are pleased with the results achieved thanks to the team’s hard work. While this is a one off in-room auction event, what it has successfully highlighted is how we have evolved auctions and balanced the human-centric and digital elements to meet the needs of the growing market as its popularity rises. We look forward to putting on similar in person events to complement our digital auctions and continue our support for local businesses and communities.”
