The demand for luxury fashion goes unabated, especially where children are concerned. The price for parents, both financial and emotional, can be high with children apparently developing a fashion sense from age 7 and garments retailing into the thousands of pounds. Some retailers have spotted the market challenges aligned with mounting environmental awareness, especially in children, and there is a growing resale market for pre-loved that might have been started by thrifty parents using digital resale platforms but has now been taken up by some major online and high street retailers.
As a result of the recent insolvency of Sekhri Enterprises Ltd, “Sekhri”, a UK based online premium sector retailer, their entire stock of luxury designer children’s clothing is being offered for sale by auction providing a rare opportunity to secure those highly coveted designer labels at very competitive prices.
Walker Singleton Chartered Surveyors, acting as agents for the Quantuma LLP, the appointed Liquidators of Sekhri, are selling by auction c£600,000 at retail, of clothing, footwear and accessories from a plethora of designer, luxury, brands ranging from Armani through Hugo Boss, DSquared2, Fendi, Lanvin and Marc Jacobs to Versace; close to 40 in total. Sekhri entered liquidation in February and this auction follows a highly successful earlier sale of nursery equipment. The COVID-19 lockdown led to an enforced pause in the asset realisation process.
The auction, taking place online, will run over 5 days starting on Monday 15th June 2020, with over 3,500 lots appealing to parents, private buyers, resellers and retailers. Howard Eastwood, Director in the Business Machinery & Asset division of Walker Singleton commented “There appears to be a voracious demand for luxury sector children’s clothing despite what some might see as eye-watering retail prices and we anticipate a degree of pent up demand as we exit the recent C19 lockdown. The stock being offered is without reserve, comprehensive in age range, encompasses both sexes and covers all fashion trends from contemporary to classical.” He added “A majority of the stock is lotted individually to allow bidders to focus on their specific requirements however there are also several hundred lots where items have been bulked and are more likely to only appeal to resellers. A fulfilment service is in place to ship Worldwide and from early registrations we anticipate high levels of interest and healthy competitive bidding.”
