This 300-lot auction is full of motoring character and interest. Packed with vintage motoring industry advertising, vehicle parts, road and street signs, oil cans and jugs, it tracks the decades from the 1940s to more recent times. There’s even an iconic and as-new set of fluffy dice and steering wheel cover dating back to the 1960s.
And there’s a star lot on two wheels: a genuine Italian made Lambretta SX 125 Special scooter in unrestored condition. With an estimate of £3,000 - £4,000 we’re expecting this fantastic barn find to attract strong interest.
You’ll find big names – Esso, AA, RAC, Dodge, Ford, Leyland, Dunlop and many, many more. And you’ll discover items at all estimate points, from as little as £10 to several thousands. Many of the items have come from the private collections of two brothers and Auctioneer Garth Drinkall says it has been a joy to catalogue this auction. He has shared some of his personal favourites:
“We’re selling a really good selection of items that would have adorned garage walls – I am drawn to Lot 634, A genuine garage advertising sign for Rootes Service and Lot 656, an enamel garage advertising sign with thermometer for Duckhams Oil – you can see the mechanics in their overalls and smell the motor oil, chassis grease, brake dust, solvent!”
“Moving through the catalogue, I just love stunning and rare petrol pump globe for Esso petroleum by S&W Lighting Ltd. It’s lot 637 and comes in its original packing case. There’s plenty of branded memorabilia at a lower estimate too – oil cans and jugs from Junior Shell, Castrol GTX, Esso and more, and a genuine Snowflake anti-freeze jug.”
“Collectors with specific manufacturer allegiances will love our section of badges, from lapel to radiator and bonnet, there are plenty to browse – enamel on metal and like mini works of art. There’s one marking the Coronation from 1953, names you’d expect such as Austin Healey, Rover and Ford, as well as bus and truck manufacturers including Albion, Scania and Bedford.”
“Of course, the whole auction team is coveting the Lambretta. Just turning the engine over makes you want to hop on and join the scooter scene. It’s Lot 831 and sure to bring in the bids.”
